Message in a bottle

Paige suffered severe injuries that needed many stitches. When she was shown the footage of the assault, she was able to identify her attacker to the police. Richard Brittain was recognizable as a minor celebrity, and they had recently fought online. Paige knew what he looked like from his pictures on the internet. She had no doubt it was him.

Richard had left for England immediately after the attack and returned to his odd, nomadic lifestyle. The very next day, he joined in the Global March for Elephants and Rhinos in London, not because he cared about stopping the ivory trade, but because a lot of girls went to these things. He went about his days, exercising and writing, until he was arrested after police traced his cell phone signal, which also placed him in Glenrothes at the time of the attack. He was charged with the brutal attack on Paige and—finally—with stalking Ella.

After pleading not guilty, he was released pending trial and started seeing a psychiatrist. As is normal procedure in the UK, the police did not release Richard’s name in connection with the attack on Paige Rolland, so it was not reported in the media. A post on Wattpad about the matter was quickly removed. In part it said:

Today I’m going to … shame a former Wattpad user by the real-life name of Richard Brittain. And why am I going to do that? Because not enough people know what happened. People should know what happened. But in burying this incident and hushing up about it, Wattpad is not preparing young girls on here for the reality of what happens when douchebag scumbag predators are allowed onto this website.

I will not name the victim of this, but to make a long story short, here’s what many of you should have heard about by now but didn’t.

A member of Wattpad reviewed a book. Another Wattpad member (Richard Brittain) did not like this review. So this piece of shit asshole actually traveled across countries and found where this young woman lived, and he bashed her over the head with a bottle, forcing her to get surgery. I don’t know if Wattpad banned his account or if he deleted it. What I do know is that trash like this doesn’t belong on this website or on this world.

It’s one thing not to agree with a reviewer. It’s another thing to insult her for her review. And then it’s another thing altogether, as in not even in the same league, when you try to hurt her because you disagree with her.

Sticks and stones, people.
